Who was Chris Cornell? Christopher John Cornell is an American singer, songwriter, lyricist and guitarist. He was most known for his work with the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave.
Chris was born July 20th 1964 in Seattle, Washington. Chris grew up in a very musical family where he learned piano and guitar, he was one of 6 children of Karen Cornell and Edward. F Boyle. Chris struggled with mental health issues for most of his life; he would drop out of high school. Chris credited his mother for helping him as she would give him a snare drum that would spark his passion for music and life. He would then form Soundgarden in the 80’s with Hiro Yamamoto, Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron.
Soundgarden would then release the hit albums Superunknown in 1994 and BadMotorFinger in 1991. Sound gardens genre could be described as grunge or alternative rock. Soundgarden would go on to win Grammy in 1995 for best metal and hard rock performances for their song “Blackhole sun” and “SpoonMan”. They also won a MTV video music award in 1994 and a Clio award, and in 2025 Chris would be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
This fame for Chris would last up until May 18th 2017 where Chris was found dead in his apartment. We should remember Chris for his contributions to the alternative rock genre and his advocacy for mental health he did in his lifetime. He is survived by his daughters Toni and Jillian Cornell.
