On October 25th, Albany High participated in the Suburban Council Championships for Cross Country. This was held at SPAC (The Saratoga Performing Arts Center), and it is one of the toughest courses run throughout the season. It is 3 miles long, and includes sections with pavement mixed into the typical dirt or gravel course.
A mixture of pavement and natural terrain can be difficult; if you use spikes for extra traction and speed on the natural terrain, you will have to run on the pavement with your spikes as well, which can cause damage to your spikes, injury, and is less effective than running in normal shoes. However, if you run in normal running shoes, you won’t have the benefits of the spikes on gravel or dirt. Even with this challenge in front of the Albany High Cross Country team, the Falcons still had a great showing.
The varsity boys had an excellent showing from Noah Bizer, who finished 7th out of 95 runners and ran a 5:10 pace. Albany also had great showings from runners Cameron Volk and Daniel Levy, who ran a 5:37 pace and a 6:06 pace, respectively.
On the varsity girls side, more great times were posted from Mariana Hentrich running a 6:33 pace, Janie Hallgren running at a 7:01 pace, and Tess Moore running a 7:05 pace, with the rest of the girls not far behind.
Albany worked hard and ran fast at the Suburban Council Championships. Congratulations to all the runners and good luck at sectionals to those who made it!
