One Albany High senior is making history this year by and she just happens to be one of the editors of this newspaper!

Onovu Otitigbe-Dangerfield is the valedictorian of Albany High’s Class of 2021, specifically the first Black valedictorian in our school’s 152 year history!

This is a shocking accomplishment considering the school’s demographic, so many news outlets seem to have covered this momentous occasion. However, we all have to remember Onovu is not only the valedictorian, in addition to working on this paper she: is the president of the robotics club, plays soccer, plays piano, and has a passion for engineering and computer science.

We, at The Nest, can also say Onovu is one of the funniest people we have ever met and has an amazing sense of humor. She will be attending Harvard University next fall, and hopes to study biomedical engineering and neuroscience! So, it’s safe to say that she’s not done making history in her lifetime quite yet.  It is also very clear that Onovu encourages other females and people of color, really anyone, to pursue their passions even if that means stepping out of the stereotypical boxes society has made.

Congratulations, Onovu! Falcons are definitely doing amazing things this year, even in a pandemic!
