Brain what? That’s the common response I get when I mention this to people. So what is the Brain Bee? The Brain Bee is an international competition that is acknowledged as the largest worldwide neuroscience competition for teenagers. Anyone between the ages of 13-19 are allowed to compete. The competition is divided into local, regional, national and international levels of competition, testing neuroscientific skills.

The format of the competition is similar to that of a spelling bee, where students are granted an opportunity to learn about the brain and its function. For Albany High, this competition will be taking place at Albany Medical Center on Saturday February 29th, 2020.Albany Medical Center held its first Brain Bee competition in 2016, and each year about 40 students compete for the local title.

Albany High has a Brain Bee club that typically meets on Thursdays in Mr. Amodeos room. With the move, this room is now located in room 2230. There students are granted the opportunity to participate in a written round where students are given exams. The exam consists of 20 multiple choice questions that are to be completed within a 20 minute time block.all students advance to the second round where they are able to compete in an oral competition. The winner of the competition has the opportunity to advance to regional competition.

Wish our students luck as they embark on the journey to regionals this Friday!
