On May 21st, I had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by SUNY. This event was the third annual SUNY Address. This was an amazing opportunity presented, and with my press pass was granted access the press section in the back of the auditorium where all of the tech people for the event were. I was actually next to the guy who was controlling the speech prompter. This was a great experience to follow up on the topics that Chancellor King and I had discussed previously.
Throughout the event, there were a variety of topics discussed, and multiple guest speakers were brought to speak. King was quoted saying, “There is a place at suny for every new yorker.” This aligns well with the themes we discussed in our interview, talking about the diversity and inclusion that is one of the main pillars of SUNY. King also spoke to his determination to advertise the protections of Title 6. Beyond that, most of what was discussed was personal stories to connect with the audience or just more in depth on the topics him and I had already discussed, including more specific implantation ideas/goals.
