The Boys Varsity Soccer team had an amazing game, defeating Nikskyuna 3-0 under the lights on Thursday the 8th. The team was running on high following the win against BH-BL on Tuesday the 6th. This win against Niksyuna was the first home game of the 2022 season, everyone was very pumped up, and the Falcon bleachers were filled with supportive friends and classmates. Within the first 10 minutes, #10, Tuyshime Gefasha had a fantastic goal bringing the falcons in the lead 1-0. Within the last 15 minutes of the end of the first half, #27, Hussen Lubila scored an amazing goal bringing the falcons to a 2-0 lead.

The stands were abuzz under the lights, as the Falcons were winning, and the energy was incredible. Thirty minutes into the second half, Goalie Brian Miligan made a fantastic save. In the last 10 minutes, the boys held strong to their 2-0 lead. Hassan Mohsini, #7 made the last goal of the night, an amazing penalty shot that Niskyuna’s goalie couldn’t stop. This amazing shot secured a 3-0 win over the Warriors. With five minutes remaining in regular time, Coach Weiss made huge subs and the falcons had secured their win.

When asked how they the team is feeling this season, Coach Weiss said, “I’m very excited to see what this year’s group of players can accomplish. They are a skillful group with a lot of athleticism. I think the season holds a lot of promise.” Co-Captain Dylan Mariscal-Derby said in response to this game that, “We played well and took control of the game. We were able to exploit their defense and pull two penalties for the latter two goals and forced a loss of possession for the first. I’m feeling optimistic about our season, while we have things to work on, our team is really coming together. I really think we have a shot this year; we have a hard working team with a thirst to win.” When asked about his plans for his soccer career he said, “I am planning on going back to Spain next year and hope to become a professional player.”

Current team co-captains for the 2022-2023 season are Hassan Mohsini and Dylan Mariscal-Derby. Goalie Brian Miligan replaced  Ceaser Bermejo, who graduated last June. They are looking like a really strong team this year, with great communication, and solid passes between upper and lower classmen.

Winning the first home game of the year was a great feeling for the team and school! Congrats to the boys for an amazing game, and good luck in the rest of the season.
