The Earth is flat. That’s what one group of crazed individuals would like you to believe, anyway. Some say that the Flat Earth Society has members “all around the globe”. Let that sink in. But who could believe in this malarkey, you may ask, and is it true?

The Flat Earth Society was founded in 1956 by an eccentric man named Samuel Shenton. The group goes against observations that the Earth is round. The group consisted of both jokers and some very serious believers.

In order to understand this complex group, I had to go to their website to understand their members, their beliefs on the world, and why they believe the things they do.

I went to their FAQs and noted that they are very defensive when it comes to their beliefs. The first question was “Are you serious?” They responded with “yes”. Another question was “Is the Flat Earth connected to any religion?” They responded by saying that most religions embrace a “dome-shaped” Earth. They do not have any connections with established religions. However, they do have some evidence to back their claims. They mention how the horizon always rises to meet eye level. They also claim there is no full shot of the Earth rotating. They also call all photographs of the Earth from space fake news, they even believe that astronauts were even bribed or forced to not disclose the shape of Earth.

You may ask why would one want to keep this a secret even today, well, the Flat Earth Society has an explanation for this too. They want to maintain legitimacy. The Flat Earth Society believes that during the Cold War, we faked the moon landing. Shortly after, they realized that the reason they could not reach the moon was due to the flatness of the Earth. For any more questions, go visit theflatearthsociety.org.

For those out of the know, American rapper B.o.B has recently been trying to get funding for a project to launch a space expedition. B.o.B. (who made Airplanes and Nothin’ on You, those songs that played nonstop back in the early 2010s) had a spat with Neil DeGrasse Tyson about the shape of the Earth and after being initiated by the Secretary of the FES, John Davis. Eventually, he launched a GoFundMe to send satellites into the atmosphere to find out the “truth”.

The big question seems to be whether the Earth flat or spherical. Personally, to me, the Earth is more round than an orange. Others have their own opinions and they should believe in whatever they would like to, no matter how silly it might sound to others. Perhaps we will finally get an answer when B.o.B. goes to space.
