Fantasy football has been around since the early 1960’s, and has grown to be one of the most popular games on the internet today. Fantasy football is where you and a group of friends draft or bid on real life professional football players and earn points depending how those particular players perform on a week to week basis.

Daily fantasy sports sites such as Draft Kings and Fan Duel have made fantasy football very popular, and a potentially lucrative hobby. Each site is valued at over one billion dollars each according to the New York Times. Many users of sites like these have been said to have won millions of dollars from playing daily fantasy sports.

As great as the hobby sounds, some states have a different opinion on it. Nevada for example has determined it to be a form of gambling. Nevada, the first state to take action on this topic has officially made these sites illegal and they would now have to have to obtain a license under the Nevada state law to operate there.

According to the New York Times website, the FBI began contacting several prominent competitors using these websites. The users said an employee at Draft Kings admitted to inadvertently releasing the data of lineups before the third week of the NFL season. The employee, a mid-level content manager, then went on to win $350,000 at a rival site, although Draft Kings say he had no advantage.

As Nevada is the first state to make a move on daily fantasy sports, it is almost certain they will not be alone and that other states will soon follow and also take action.
