Have We Taken Social Media Too Far?

Chy'An Fraser, Staff Writer

Many people feel the need to post every minute of their day on social media. There are those that promote positive things such as eating healthy, exercising, college, family etc. While others share posts of them doing things such as drugs and drunk driving. A plastic surgeon took social media as far as posting videos as he conducted surgeries.

Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and Periscope are some of the most popular social media apps. They all provide personal, immediate access into the lives of strangers. Recently, a woman was arrested for drunk driving while broadcasting the experience on Periscope.

Police used the app to locate the woman based on the landmarks shown as she was live streaming. Another example is the plastic surgeon who uses Snapchat and posts brief videos of himself performing live surgeries on his patients.

Many people would argue there is such a thing as posting too much. Others would argue you have the right to express yourself by posting anything you desire. Either way, we live in a digital age of instant over-sharing. Has social media gone too far? Let us know what you think!
