The Purge, a movie directed by none other than James Monaco, was released on June 7th. The movie’s major concept revolves around “The Purge,” which is essentially that all crime in the U.S. is legal for the time limit of twelve hours. In these twelve hours, a family of four (dad, mom, son, and daughter) fights to stay safe and keep each other out of harm’s way in any way possible. Yes, The Purge sounds interesting with its engaging concept, but the question “Was this movie good or bad?” has no real answer. Though The Purge has a great concept, its lack of professional actors and movie length has hurt it.
The Purge may be short, but don’t let its length fool you. It is very entertaining with plenty of action. Although there are a few tiny plot twists, they were not complex and may even seem predictable to some. As the movie continues it seems to become more and more predictable yet it becomes more and more entertaining as well. The Purge starts off slow and the suspense increases once the family goes into full lockdown.
To be sure, The Purge is short yet entertaining. It won’t have you jumping out of your seat but some scenes will spook or surprise you. It sets out to be a thriller, and it does it well. The acting had ups and downs but in the end was pretty solid. The Purge receives 7 stars out of 10.
